Warning from the Makers of The Bad Guys 2: Using This Film to Train AI Is Prohibited

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, DreamWorks Animation has included a warning at the end of the animated film “The Bad Guys 2,” threatening legal action against companies that use the film’s images to train AI models. This warning has been added to the film’s end credits at a time when the film industry, not only has failed to take effective action to prevent the use of this technology, but some studios and filmmakers—including Netflix and James Cameron—believe producing films with AI is cheaper.

At the end of “The Bad Guys 2,” the creators warn:
“All rights in this work are reserved for all lawful purposes related to data mining or AI training, including Article 4(3) of Directive (EU) 2019/790. This work must not be used for AI training.”

On social media, many users have welcomed this warning, commonly referred to as “data poisoning,” which could expose violators to heavy financial penalties. One user writes: “Good for them. More artists need to take a clear stand on protecting their work.” Another comments: “From now on, this warning is essential.”

Meanwhile, IMAX has announced that it will hold the third edition of its AI Film Festival, with over 6,000 entries registered. Thus, it appears the film industry does not have a unified stance on this technology. Earlier, it was reported that some AI companies have used free subtitles to train their models in screenwriting.

“The Bad Guys 2” opened this week and received an “A” CinemaScore from audiences.
